PARENTS

GET INVOLVED!

Parent involvement is a huge factor in children’s happiness and success in school.
Sharing information between home and nursery is therefore valuable.
We do this in many ways, including: friendly chats at drop off and pick up times, weekly newsletters, topic sheets, messages, photograph / video observations - and through the children’s digital learning books.
LearningBook is a Digital Learning Journey that combines easy to use, practical features with beautiful design, underpinned with safeguarding-aware technology. Developed by head teachers, Ofsted outstanding nursery operators and IT experts and used extensively throughout the UK and abroad, LearningBook is quickly becoming the number one choice for teachers and Early Years Professionals.

With LearningBook, you can:
  • View and comment on observations taken at school through the MyLearningBook portal.
  • See how each observation is linked to the EYFS curriculum and what link means.
  • Give extended or overseas family access to view your child’s learning journey.
  • View your child’s overall progress throughout the early years curriculum.
  • Upload your own photos from home activities to enhance your child’s learning record.
  • Request pdf download of learning journey from nursery.

Working together to help children develop through
exploration, play and intuition.

Ten Town is a great way to introduce basic numeracy concepts to children, it gives you the opportunity to support your children's learning at home.

Our friendly number characters help children learn and remember the correct number formations, understand number value and also help to ‘turn around’ the common problem of writing numbers back-to-front.

Ten Town provides lots of activities that enable children to use maths in real-life situations. The online games also encourage problem solving, reasoning, counting, patterning and much more!

Our story-based approach makes learning numbers fun and easy, with something to attract and maintain every child's attention, including games, stories, and animations, even our own Ten Town TV!
PHONICS IN NURSERY

Phonics by Ruth Miskin

Firstly, Ruth Miskin recommends that we read stories aloud to children every day to form a link for them between reading and comfort and love.
She also points out that as young children learn quickly, we could teach a new sound every day.

The speed at which the children read the sounds will make a huge difference to their reading words.

STORIES IN OUR MAGICAL FOREST

Safeguarding Children

Gina's Nursery will share information with parents regarding the health and safety of their child in the setting- including our policies on the following:

  • Illness
  • Accidents
  • Emergencies
  • Suitability of equipment
  • Medication
  • Dropping off and picking up children
  • Safety in the road

Transitions

A strong bond with a key person can support children when settling into nursery.

"This bond is like an emotional safety net and it is essential that it is strong enough to 'catch' the child in the absence of their parents."
Penny Tassoni, Nursery World article on working with two year olds (14th January 2013).

Ways in which Gina's Nursery supports positive transitions:
  • Key adults developing relationships with their special children.
  • Talking positively to the children and parents about starting nursery. Greeting each other.
  • Parents can attend nursery for the first two hourly sessions.
  • Gradually increasing the time that the child spends in nursery.
  • Contact with parent at drop off and pick up times and via telephone,  text messages, photographs, videos and Learning Book.
  • Encourage the child to bring in a favourite object, such as, a toy, cuddly, or photograph.
  • Staff try to find out the child's needs, interests, routines, likes and dislikes.

"We teach two year olds by following them rather than trying to lead them" - Penny Tassoni
